To kick off 2022, Kate Birdsall, Associate Professor in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures, presented “Redefining Experiential Learning in the Humanities: The Cube (publishing - process - praxis)” on January 20 in which she briefly highlighted how The Cube supports undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Arts & Letters.
The First-Year Writing (FYW) Program at MSU again offered undergraduates a unique experience and the chance to demonstrate the research and writing skills they acquired in their fall 2021 writing classes in a formal conference setting. The fall 2021 First-Year Writing Symposium, which took place December 3, was an exciting opportunity for students to present the work they did in their classes and reflect on what they learned.
The Cube (publishing – process – praxis) has won a 2021-2022 university Creating Inclusive Excellence Grant (CEIG). The grant will be used to support three of The Cube’s upcoming projects: the Detroit Accessibility Project, Indigenous Games, and Holt Public Schools’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) content strategy and implementation.
The College of Arts & Letters is pleased to recognize the faculty members who recently were promoted to full professor, associate professor, or associate professor-fixed term. These faculty were honored during special ceremonies at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in October and November.

WRAC’s Professional and Public Writing (P2W) Club held their first social event of the semester, a student-led Game Night, on November 16th. The event allowed P2W students to unwind and build community with snacks and games in a fun, relaxed environment. Game Night also strengthened writing and revision skills—and the entire P2W program—in the process.

Casey McArdle is the co-winner of the 2020 Computers and Composition Distinguished Book Award for the book he co-wrote with Jessie Borgman, titled Personal, Accessible, Responsive, Strategic: Resources and Strategies for Online Writing Instructors.
Ja’La Wourman, who will receive her Ph.D. in Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures from MSU this spring, was hired to the James Madison University College of Arts and Letters cohort.
