Profile

Marohang Yakthung Limbu is an associate professor in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures. He is a founder and editor-in-chief of Journal of Global Literacies, Technologies, and Emerging Pedagogies. His research interest includes Himalayan cultural rhetorics, Yakthung Mundhum traditions, Mundhum pedagogies, multimodal composition, multilingualism, and global rhetorics. Marohang has published a book, Delinking, Relinking, and Linking Writing and Rhetorics: Inventions and Interventions of the Sirijanga Syllabary (2021) and has co-edited several books. Marohang has been working on a long term research and documentation project that include the ancient Himalayan matrilineal/matriarchal cultural traditions, Mundhum pedagogies, and Himalayan Indigenous people’s customary traditions, including delinking, relinking, and linking writing and rehtorics. Currently, to further his research, Marohang is learning the Old Sirijanga script that was developed (before 7th century, and that has been lost for centuries) in the Himalayan regions independently of the Chinese and Indian writing systems, and he has also created GLOBAL NETWORK YouTube Channel to network with oral text experts, elders and knowledge keepers, ya-phedangmas, historians, educators, leaders, and scholars to study, explore, and digitally document Himalayan Sawa Yehang, Yet Hang, and Thibong Yakthung rhetorical traditions.
