Research Areas

Cultural Rhetorics

My scholarship has ranged from studies of critical theory, autobiography, cultural rhetorics, and as a result of my 1977-78 Fulbright in the Philippines, a large body of work on Philippine literature and on American colonialism in the Philippines. In more recent years I have worked on Midwestern literature and since becoming MSU's Fulbright adviser in 2011, the rhetoric of grant applications. With Professor Emeritus of Sociology David Wiley I have recently offered a course on International Social Science Research addressed to doctoral students.
