immigrant rhetorics, cultural rhetorics, race/gender/religious representation in visual media, multilingual pedagogies
As a master’s student in the Critical Studies in Literacy and Pedagogy program, I’m interested in exploring the rhetorics surrounding immigrant families, especially regarding conceptualizations of homeland, belonging, and identity. I’m also curious about how the representation (or lack thereof) of race, gender, and religion plays out on TV shows. I’m driven by the question of whether it’s better to be misrepresented/negatively represented or to be invisible. In my spare time, I’m passionate about poetry, young adult fiction, professional wrestling, traveling, and learning languages.
