First-Year and ELL Writing

Contingent on funding and need, the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures seeks to fill up to five possible openings for the following position:

Full-time assistant professor, fixed-term; initial one-year appointment. Subsequent appointment contingent on positive annual review, funding, and staffing needs.  Starts August 16, 2012. PhD in an area of composition, literacy education, or writing studies, and demonstrated commitment to first-year writing. We particularly seek candidates with prior teaching experience or background in developmental writing and in college composition for multilingual language learners, including TESOL.  We are also interested candidates with an area in Linguistics and/or Discourse Studies to contribute to ELL Writing and teach an occasional Introduction to Language Studies course for English Education undergraduates.

The First-Year Writing Program includes a developmental writing course and a set of thematically-focused 4-credit courses each of which satisfies the first-year general education writing requirement. Three emphases inform the program: cultural literacy practices, multimodal literacies, and writing as rhetorically and culturally situated. Teach three courses per semester. Ongoing professional development and contribution to program initiatives expected; participation in professional conferences relevant to the appointment preferred.

Professional Writing and First-Year Writing
