Giving
Support from alumni and friends will help the Department of Rhetoric, Writing, & American Cultures sustain outstanding faculty work, enhance student learning, and engage in inquiry about writing and rhetoric in cultural and digital environments.
Donors may give to a department general fund, to existing named funds, or to newly endowed funds. Gifts made to the WRAC general discretionary fund will be distributed by the chair to support current priorities such as these:
- First-year writing students’ travel to present at conferences with faculty
- Scholarships for Professional Writing majors to participate in national editing and publishing workshops
- Scholarships for graduate students
- Faculty development in the teaching of first-year writing
Donors may also to contribute to these funds:
- The David Anderson Award in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures given each semester for outstanding student writing in a First-Year Writing course.
- The American Thought and Language Faculty Development Endowed Fund provides income annually for faculty projects and research. Most recently, it supported the one phase of the multi-year LiteracyCorps Michigan study of 21st century literacy undertaken by Professors Bump Halbritter and Julie Lindquist.
